HP Elite 8300 USDT will not run after remote reboot: LED goes on then off, 1 beep.

After using the machine for a year or so, I remote logged in with ssh from another host. Then I issued shutdown -r 0, but it did not come back up, instead went into a zombie state. So I cycled power with power-brick cable out-in and button push. It never started again. Henceforth, same symptom always manifests upon depressing power-on button. Machine turns on, lower LED comes on, single beep, lower LED off. Fans continue, upper LED continues, machine is powered on but no activity leading to any BIOS output - it is a sort of zombie. I assume the Mobo has died, or more precisely the BIOS, but it's funny that it did so exactly when a remote cycle was done. Nothing physical was happening - just a remote session issuing a reboot.
