HP Envy 700-515xt won't boot after device driver upgrade

HP Envy 700-515xt
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Running Windows 10 professional, 64 bit, on HP Envy 700-515xt.

Device manager upgraded driver for disk drives, not sure which driver. On reboot, no programs responded. Shut power off. Machine won't boot. Fans turn on for 10 seconds and stop. F11&power button combo gets no response, neither does ESC and power button combo

Thank you,

Robert

Disconnect the AC power.

Press-and-hold the ON/OFF button for 10 seconds, to drain any "residual" power.

Reconnect the AC power.

When you touch the ON/OFF button, what happens?  Can you enter BIOS SETUP mode or launch the HP Hardware Diagnostics?

I took the power cord out and held the ON/OFF button for 10 seconds, reconnected the power cord, still no boot.

I held the Windows key + B key and then held the power key, no boot afterward.

I don't know any other key sequences to try.

Thank you.

Your computer: HP ENVY 700-515xt product specifications

is a desktop computer:

This document contains basic features and specification for the following HP CTO model:

Have you tried temporarily changing the power-supply?

That is the easiest "parts-swap" to try.

It would be much more complicated/expensive to try to find (eBay?) a replacement motherboard, to try.

I might try changing the power supply. I can't identify its part number, though.

Since your computer is a "desktop", there is no requirement to replace it with a "Genuine HP" power-supply.

Take your computer to any computer-store, and get them to identify a compatible power-supply, install it, and test it, to prove that it works.

HP Envy 700-515xt won't boot after device driver upgrade

Let's say a new power supply gets the machine working.  If I boot, I'll get no response from anything because of the bad device driver. Is there a way to boot up so that I can get into device manager and install the previous driver?

Thank you for all the help!

I doubt that changing this device-driver was the CAUSE of any of your symptoms.

If you boot in "safe" mode, you should be able to "uninstall" or "roll-back".

That's really weird that you get "enough" power to run the computer for 10 seconds, but not 11 seconds. :indifferent:
