HP HPE Desktop from 2010

Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I am still using my HP Desktop from 2010 HPE 270f. I know it is old and I need a new one. But this one is still working and I do not really have the money to buy a new one right now. A few days ago I put in a 3 TB hard drive and it will hang on the HP screen. The drive is good nothing wrong with it. If I put it in as only drive it hangs. If I put it in as secound drive Windows will boot and will see the drive in My Computer also in Device Manager and Computer Management. Only when the drive is connected as the only hard drive I have the hanging issue. I figured this was a compatability issue. Am I correct? Is there a way to install an OS and boot to the drive?

Yes, you are correct. It is a compatibility issue.

Your PC doesn't have the required UEFI BIOS in order to boot from a hard drive greater than 2 TB.

You can only use it for storage.

You can try partitioning and formatting the drive while it is a secondary drive...MBR-NTFS, and partition it into a 2 TB and a 1 TB partition, and then see if you can use it as a boot drive.
