HP Pavilion 500-c60 won't boot Ubuntu

I replaced the hard drive in my  machine. Booted from a Ubuntu 16.04 USB stick, and installed Ubuntu. I am unable to get the machine to book off this disk without going through the EFTI menu.

Test 1:

From F10 menu on startup, choose "Set Defaults and Restart".

When reboot, I get one line:

ERROR: No boot disk has been detected of the disk has failed.

Test 2:

After setting defaults, from F10 menu, Choose System Security, Virtualization Technology: Enable

When reboot, I get one line:

ERROR: No boot disk has been detected of the disk has failed.

Test 3:

After setting defaults, from F10 menu, Choose Seure Boot Configuration, Secure Boot: Disable

When reboot, I get one line:

ERROR: No boot disk has been detected of the disk has failed.

Test 4:

After setting defaults, from F10 menu, Choose Seure Boot Configuration, Legacy Support: Enable, Secure Boot: Disable

When reboot, it tries to boot from the network. After that fails, I get:

ERROR: No boot disk has been detected of the disk has failed.

Test 5:

After setting defaults, from Run UEFI Application

Select File Browser: HDD: ST3250318AS, <EFI>, <ubuntu>, shimx64.efi

Warns "booting in insecure mode".

Runs Ubuntu.

Test 6:

After setting defaults, from Run UEFI Application

Select File Browser: HDD: ST3250318AS, <EFI>, <ubuntu>, grubx64.efi

Errors "Application failed a security check".

Will not proceede.

Test 7:

After setting defaults, from Run UEFI Application

Select File Browser: HDD: ST3250318AS, <EFI>, <ubuntu>, fwupx64.efi

Errors "Application failed a security check".

Will not proceede.

It's clear from Test 5 that Ubuntu is correctly installed on the hard disk.

What settings do I need to make in my machine's BIOS so that I don't have to go through the System menu each time I want to boot my computer?

Hi,

If you are going to in install in UEFI mode then it appears that you will need to install custom keys (test5) unless your PC was shipped with Ubuntu.   Was your PC shipped with Ubuntu? The configurator indicates Linux and Windows were the only options.  You might try the Ubuntu site and see if keys are available.

My machine did not come with Ubuntu. It was shipped with Windows.

Following your advice, I searched more specifically on the Ubuntu site. I did not, specifically find keys, but I did find this web page with more info:

Based on what worked for me, and what did not work for me, I did the following:

• Booted, as per test 5, into my installed Ubuntu.
• copy /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/shimx64.efi to /boot/efi/EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.EFI
• copy /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/grubx64.efi and grub.cfg into /boot/efi/EFI/BOOT

After that, when I rebooted, my machine game up with Ubuntu as desired.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. My system is working as desired now.
