HP Pavilion All-in-One - 24-xa0115st
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After windows updates on 3/15/20 my HP Pavilion All-in-One - 24-xa0115st is very slow to boot. I timed it and it takes exactly 2.5 minutes to boot when it only used to take less than 2 seconds after I enter my password. After I enter my password for windows the screen goes all black except for my cursor. I can hit the windows key and the taskbar will pop up. the start menu also shows but if you click on an app it does not appear. I suspect that there are programs open under the blackness because I can hear things happening that usually happen on boot up. If I ctl alt delete I get the menu but when I choose task manager the screen remains black. after 2 and a half minutes the screen comes to life and the task manager is there. My son is an IT professional and went thru all the troubleshooting exercises including unplugging all the USB peripherals, rolling back updates and turning off startup programs. None of this made any difference. To make things even worse the problem is intermittent. about 1 in 6 times it will boot normally - sometimes twice in a row. Has anyone experienced this? At first we though this was a software issue but now we think it may be hardware.  More info: I purchased this PC in August 2019. I didn't install any software or make any changes to any programs before this started happening. No other symptoms have been noticed.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. I would suggest performing system factory reset will put the computer back to the original factory settings in this way all corrupted and outdated software will be removed.

While doing the recovery there is an option to backup your personal files. If you have not previously done one now is a good time.

Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows )You can also contact HP support for assistance. They can remotely access your system to help alleviate difficulties: www.hp.com/contacthp/

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
