HP Pavilion 31.5 inch All-in-One Desktop PC 32-b0000i (3N9R4AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My hp pavilion all in one desktop shuts down unexpectedly with no warning or error message after it restarts. It has been doing this since it was new and is now about 1 year old. Disconnecting the power and turning it  back on enables us to resume usage but the problem returns sporadically. Initially thought it could be a faulty surge protector or outlet but it is doing this again now that we have it in a different room with a different surge protector. How do I diagnose what the issue is in order to fix it?

Hi @amber345,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Pavilion All-in-One is shutting down randomly without displaying any error codes, it could be due to several possible reasons. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to identify and resolve the issue.

  • Check for overheating: Make sure the computer is not overheating. Overheating can cause the system to shut down abruptly to prevent damage. Ensure that the ventilation ports are clear of dust and debris. Consider using compressed air to clean out any accumulated dust from the vents.
  • Power supply issues: Ensure that the power cable is securely connected to both the computer and the power outlet. If possible, try using a different power outlet or power cable to rule out any issues with the power source.
  • Update drivers: Outdated or faulty device drivers can sometimes cause unexpected shutdowns. Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your specific model. Install the updates and see if the issue persists.
  • Software conflicts: Third-party software or incompatible applications can sometimes interfere with the system, leading to unexpected shutdowns. Try uninstalling recently installed programs one by one to see if the problem resolves. Additionally, make sure your operating system is up to date with the latest patches and updates.
  • Hardware issues: Faulty hardware components, such as a failing power supply, defective RAM, or a malfunctioning motherboard, could also be the cause. Contact HP support or a professional technician to diagnose and repair any potential hardware issues.
  • Run hardware diagnostics: HP usually provides built-in hardware diagnostic tools that can help identify problems with your computer. Restart the computer and repeatedly press the designated key (usually F2 or Esc) to access the BIOS or UEFI settings. Look for an option like "Hardware Diagnostics" or "System Diagnostics" and run a comprehensive test to check for any hardware failures.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
