I am trying to help my 88 year old father with a problem that has pestered him for a long time. He purchased a Hewlett Packard Pavilion desktop from Best Buy within the last year. He has had so many problems with this computer. He actually had a stroke 5 months ago because he was so stressed out about the computer problems. He is a diehard college football fan and uses the computer to check message boards and stats websites. 

 

Anyhow, the problem now is that the computer will not start up immediately. You press the button on the tower and it lights up and the noises start like it is starting but the screen is black. You basically have to do this anywhere from 5-8 times and finally the HP logo comes on the screen. This is incredibly obnoxious and obviously something someone recovering from a stroke doesn't need to deal with. 

 

He just wants this brand new computer to actually turn on. Once it is on, it works fine, but the thing will not start without wasting a bunch of time and getting frustrated. I have searched and searched online and see nothing related to this. 

 

If anyone could help an old man look at his football websites, I would be incredibly appreciative.

Let's run the Power Option Troubleshooter and check if that helps

 

Press ‘Win + I’ shortcut keys to open Windows Settings app.

Click on ‘Update & Security’, then go to the ‘Troubleshoot’ section from the left-side menu.

Scroll downwards a bit and click on the ‘Power’ option.

Click on ‘Run the Troubleshooter’. It will start detecting the problems and if it founds, go ahead fixing it.

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

 

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

 

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available
