I was given this computer. It is really loaded - 1 terabyte across 2 hard drives, CD-ROM, Wireless Lan, 8192mb ram, 3400 mhz processor speed, JAS_819.rom V8.19 BIOS and a sticker that says WINDOWS 8. Everything but a Partridge in a Pear Tree. Seriously, a lot of bells and whistles. However, When I try to boot the computer, I get the following error "No boot disk found or disk failure."
I have tried re-configuring the boot-up order, and a lot of the suggestions online from HP, with no luck. Is it possible that there is no OS or, is it set up to be tied to a LAN,. or is there something keeping it from accessing the hard drive? I really need to use this computer asap, so any help will be much appreciated. I will provide any other information that I can get from the machine, if necessary.
Thank you.

There are windows 8 and 8.1 drivers here
You possibly can obtain original CDs here
http://www.computersurgeons.com/default.aspx
Did the person who had it previously every install windows 10? if so, the license is at microsoft and all you need is the set of 8.1 drivers.
You can install Ubuntu Desktop which will work nicely
https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop
You can also install Windows 11 but it will have a nag screen reminding you to activate it. I have read that it does not expire but will be lame as it does not allow personalization. Get it here using the rufus trick
AFAICT there are no downloadable copies of windows 7 or 8 out on the internet from an authorized source. You might download 10 and see if it can be activated. If it cannot be then you might try 11 and put up witht nag screen.

There is a possibility the OS is not installed or it could be the boot drive has failed or is corrupted.
That error can be caused by several things, first check to verify there are no media cards in the card reader,
no external devices connected Via USB and no media the DVD/CD drive. then try a reboot.
If that still continues, run the Diagnostic routine
To run the Diagnostic routine, with the PC off, start tapping the "Esc" key, while still tapping the "Esc" key press the start button.
Keep tapping the "Esc" key until a pop-up menu appears. Then pick Diagnostics, F2.
Report back with the results. If the boot drive passes the Diagnostics, you can try to install Windows 10 using the install media.
To download the most up-to-date Windows 10 the place to get that is here
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
With a working PC, scroll down to the "Using the tool to create installation media"
and follow the directions to make the installation media on a DVD or USB.
Then with new media, install Windows 10 on the problem PC by booting to this new media.
Pick custom install and wipe the drive then reinstall Windows 10.
When it asks for the product key, click I do not have the key and proceed. If that PC never had Windows 10 installed, it will still work but some items noy not, it will nag you to purchase a key but still work.
