HP Pavillion DV4 Black Screen

HP Pavillion DV4
Microsoft Windows Vista

I have recently opened up my 10 year-old HP Pavillion DV4 which doesn't have warranty and I discovered it doesn't work.

The screen doesn't turn on and although I have seen this problem in many forums, it never help me. I really need help.

The screen is literally black, nothing at all - not even a low brightness screen. The Caps lock and scroll keys are blinking with a sequence of three(three times then stops, repeatedly). When powered, it turns on and off and then on again, when it stays on untill powered off.  The fan works and the laptop doesn't overheat. Everything seems like it's working but the screen doesn't turn on. I have a genuine AC power cable and battery.

I have tried:

  1. Removing the whole PC and adding new thermal paste on to the GPU.
  2. Overheating and letting it cool down.
  3. Hard resetting for 40 secs.
  4. Reading forums online.

Here are some pictures of the laptop's condition:

HP Pavillion DV4 Black Screen

Hi @KarthikNandula,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues with the computer no longer powers On. Don't worry I'll do my best to help you with this.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Could you provide me with the exact model of the PC? Use this link to find it:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03754824  (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?

When you try to turn it on, do you hear the fan running? Or do you get any beeping noises/blinking lights?

Does the laptop shutdown right away if the charger is disconnected from the laptop?

Have you tried to use a different compatible charger and check if it helps?

Did this happen after a power surge or power outage?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform the below steps:

If the computer does not start, the LED lights do not glow, and the display is black,

you can perform one or more of the following actions to resolve the no power issue:

(Click on the blue letters to get more details about each step)

  1. Examine the adapter and power cord for physical damage

  2. Test the power from the AC wall outlet to the notebook connector

  3. Start computer using the battery only

  4. Check that the lid switch moves freely

  5. When you have completed the troubleshooting steps, there should be power available to the computer. When you press the power button, the LEDs should glow, and you should hear the sounds of the fan and the hard drive spinning.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Regards,

Jeet_Singh
