We did a ROM update on our HP desktop and shortly after that it shut down. It will not start back up. It only turns on long enough to give off 8 beeps. The monitor does not turn on at all. We've tried pushing down a yellow button labeled CMOS inside the computer but that did not work. We tried holding down the Windows button with the B key and pushing start but that didn't work either. Does anyone know what else could be wrong? We don't think it's the BIOS.

Reseting the CMOS was a great first step, next;
I would suggest to remove all of the peripheals:
-CD Rom Drive and
-Memory, check if the Unit gives the missing memory Beeps (5 Beeps)
If it does not give the missing memory beep code, I would recommend getting the system board replaced

Please refer to Appendix C, page 257 of the service manual for how to remedy the 8 beeps issue.

HP shut down the separate business support site in April of 2017.
Consequently any links posted from that site prior to that time won't work anymore.
Looking at the original question, here is the manual I referenced...
