Wanted to ask, before it happens:  This computer came with Windows 7 pre installed, I have no Disc for the Operating System. It is, however, something I legitimately paid for.  If the Hard Drive dies and has to be replaced, how do I also put Windows 7 I have paid for onto the new drive?

A Check Disk crashes? That's not good.

 

I still believe you have a HDD or memory problem. Did you go back to only using the HP factory memory to see if the system is stable?

 

There have been many things discussed in this thread. I can't keep track of all your troubleshooting steps. I am not able to zero in on the failing component. The HDD or the memory is the first place to check. CR2032 MB batteries can last up to six years. Power supplies fail. It could be an intermittent MB problem or a faulty cable.

 

Take all memory out of the PC. Install one stick of memory in one memory slot. Run tests to check stability. Do this in each memory slot with each memory stick. This should isolate bad memory or a bad memory slot.

 

HP introduced this PC in November 2010. Components are going to fail. One or more of your PC's components are exhibiting intermittent failure.

 

Disconnect unnecessary peripherals. Use only a keyboard, mouse, and monitor when troubleshooting.

I appreciate your help.

I'm a little skeptical about Trend Micro House Call. After about two hours
it only found One thing:

Listed as "ADW Coupons" which is just a coupon printer.
Says it is "spyware"
I don't remember ever using it, so I hit "Fix Now"

When I looked at Windows Update, it showed I have this set to
perform updates daily.  I have no clue if this will keep "Drivers" up to date,
whatever they are.

Back long before I purchased and installed any new RAM, I tried your suggestion.

Only the two original RAM were in.  I pulled number two.
Rebooted, seemed fine for at least a few days, then blue screen.

Put number two back in, pulled out number two.
Rebooted, and if I remember correctly although the fans did come on, the computer
would not boot.  Instead, made a loud noise:  Two beeps, silence, then the same two beeps,
over and over.

Went back to only the old number One slot RAM stick.
When the two NEW sticks arrived, put them into the number three and number four slots.

Computer booted so fast it was amazing.  Everything ran suddenly at blazing speed, including
Chrome.

Then, crash after crash.

Pulled the remaining Old RAM stick, leaving new in place.  Seemed fine for a few days.
Then screen would freeze or would get Blue Screens.

Pulled new RAM, moved into number one and number two slots.
Again, ran fine for a couple of days, then more screen freeze in Chrome and more Blue Screen.
Among many issues during that time was that suddenly Chrome would not play any video, while INternet Explorer would.

Tonight I am turning all off, and reboot into Safe Mode. Hopefully will be
able to run ChkDsk that way overnight.
Will post results tomorrow.

Earlier you wrote that you are not able to follow the troubleshooting steps I have have taken.

 

Is there a specific format or style that would work better for you?

 

All I can think to do is tell you what I did in the order that I did it.

 

  1. Last night I closed Chrome, and launched ChkDsk.

  2. When I woke, the screen was black but it had a message I have seen before.

I can't remember the exact words, but it was about how the screen saver could

not find the folder.

 

3. I restarted into Safe Mode. I could not get Event Viewer to show me the ChkDsk log.

I shut down.

 

4. I restared Normally. I followed directions on the internet to view the ChkDsk log.

 

5. What I found was a TXT file that appears to contain two OLD scans.

I just followed Blue Screen instrutions and used CHKDSK /F

 

I was surprised at how quickly it finished

I am NOW trying to run just plain ChkDsk, without the "F".

 

I have NO IDEA HOW to read this.

I have NO IDEA how to tell how or when it is finished, or how to read the log.

It has been up for a LONG time now.

At the bottom it now says, 

 

2428899 allocation units available on disk.
