When I attempt to switch on my computer I get 2 short and 1 long beep that repeats 5 times. The computer is powered on but does not boot. Searching this forum, using a different computer, I found that this might be a bad video card (NVIDIA GeForce  GT230, 1.5 GB). Unfortunately the links on that older post either lead to no longer available parts or "page not found" errors.  I tried removing and re-seating the video card and booting up the computer with the video cable disconnected but the result is the same.

Is a replacement card available that will work?  I've seen some used ones that say DDR2 but the sticker refers to DDR3, which I think is system memory, not video card memory, but I'm not sure.  Thanks

I just want to follow up to say that replacing the video card has fixed my computer! it's working fine again and no beeps!  I found a used NVIDIA GeForce  GT230, 1.5 GB on eBay for $20 and I am back in business!

Hi @wjbertrand1

Welcome to the HP Forum.

I don't see a 2:1 BIOS error code for recent desktop PCs at this HP Site

The long 2:X error codes point to a BIOS problem for newer HP PCs.

You should not post a HP serial number in this Forum.

An Nvidia GT230 video card (2009) suggest your PC is very old. It may be time to replace the PC. HP has retired BIOS error codes and all support for older PCs.

Try starting the PC using onboard video if your CPU and rear I/O supports this option.

Thanks for the reply. It’s not two long beeps, at least not compared to the third one which is much longer. I don’t see any other place to connect a monitor besides the video card. I agree it’s probably time to retire this one, but I’d like to get it running so I can get to my files. Thanks again.

Hi @wjbertrand1

My pleasure.

Sorry, I reversed the cadence.

Remove the system drive. Connect the drive to a different PC as an internal data drive to get access to the files.

Or get a SATA to USB 3 adapter to connect the drive to a different PC.

Data should be recoverable if the drive is good.
