Hard Disk Short DST: FAILED FAILURE ID: M0FP3A-00090M-PXPB0K-60W103

HP Recommended
HP ENVY 23-C050 ALL IN ONE DESKTOP PC

Ran hardware diagnostics and this is the failure ID I received. Can someone translate what this means and how to fix?

Thank you.

Hi,

The error code: Hard Dirve on SATA port 1 failed the quick test.

One or more of the following components could be faulty if the hardware diagnostics are failing:

  • system board
  • data cable
  • faulty power
  • faulty power cable
  • hard drive
  • hard drive not compatible  --> probably not your issue
  • hard drive firmware
  • faulty diagnostic program

You can swap things around and again run the hardware diagnostics and see if you can eliminate other possibilities.   However, there is not much to swap around in AIO PCs. Notice that I am saying hardware diagnostics and not Windows based diagnostics.

Thanks for your reply. Could this be due to a virus or does it seem like something just went out? Sound like a job for the GEEK SQUAD to fix yeah?

Thanks

Hi,

It's extremely doubtful that a virus would cause a BIOS hardware diagnostic to fail.

The "quick" test of your disk-drive only takes a few seconds -- that is why it is called "quick".

There also are "short" and "long" tests, obviously taking more time.

  • hard drive

I've edited the above list to pick the two most-likely causes, in my opinion.

You can disconnect the data cable from the CD/DVD device, disconnect the other data cable from the disk-drive, and then connect the data cable that previously connected to the CD/DVD device to the disk-drive.

Then, repeat the test of the disk-drive.

If it "passes", then the data cable (the one currently not connected) is the problem.

If it "fails", then blame the disk-drive, and replace it.
