I’ve got an Envy 750-114 with an intel i5 6400, 12 gb ram, with a 2tb Seagate HDD running windows 10. When I boot up I end up seeing a “preparing automatic repair” screen then my screen goes black and stays that way. I’ve run a system check and there was a failure ID when testing the hard drive dst. (Failure ID: Q0EFPA-81DAG2-WPTX61-60SU03) Is my hard drive just toast and I have to replace it? If so can anyone suggest a reliable way to recover my files that doesn’t cost a crazy amount?

Hello
the hard drive is defective
It can continue to operate for a certain time, but it can definitively break down, if it is not already the case!
If possible, save personal data
Try a full reinstall
Be careful even if it works, it may permanently break down, save the data regularly.
This may allow you to use the computer while you find a hard drive!

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I can’t even get the computer to boot so my hard drive is beyond saving. I’ve ordered a replacement and will try a fresh windows install using a usb. I’ll follow the instructions in the previous links but any tips you could give would be greatly appreciated.
