Hi,

I bought a used Computer which I want to use for my studies. Unfortunately I had to find out that you need a password to enter the BIOS. Without this password I can look, but not change a lot of the settings. This was a bit annoying, but I managed to install Lubuntu. Afterwards I wanted to get rid of the password problem and tried to reset the BIOS. I took out the battery for a while and it worked. But unfortunately I didn't get rid of the password. Plus: the Boot Menu is secured now, too.

I'd like to flash the BIOS, but I can't find a BIOS for my mainboard: It's an HP board, 1497. Right now it runs with J01 v02.06 BIOS, but I couldn't find this one or an updated version on the HP website or anywhere else.

Does anyone have an idea what I can do or where I can get another BIOS that works with my computer?

If you need any more information, just let me know ...

Thanks!

Hi:

If the stingent security setting wasn't invoked, you can clear the BIOS P/W by removing the green clear password jumper on the motherboard.

See the service manual, Appendix E, page 303 for the steps.
