Pavilion laptop

My laptop doesn't open to the HP logo once switched on. Only a black screen appears. And no further instructions or operations are seen on the screen.

@Karnid -- when you power-on your computer, it launches the POST (Power On Self Test).

If that test (of your computer hardware does not successfully complete, the computer does not "start" loading Windows.  Your screen stays "dark", as you have observed.

So, try this:

  1. power-off your computer
  2. start repeatedly tapping the "ESC" key (top-left of your keyboard)
  3. while tapping, power-on your computer
  4. when you see a menu, you may stop tapping
  5. on that menu, choose to run the HP Hardware Diagnostics, to test your computer's hardware.
