I have an old desktop I haven't used, need to get into now and have forgotten my pin, so am completely locked out -- can't get beyond the pin log-in screen.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I see that you are facing issues with your HP ENVY 20-D034 TouchSmart All-In-One Desktop PC wherein you forgot the PIN.
You can also fix Windows 10 PIN not working by using a local account. Here is how to do it.
Step 1. On your Windows 10 navigate to "Settings" application select the "Accounts" menu.
Step 2. Now under "Your Info," if you had created another account you will see "Sign in with a local account instead" and you can click on it.
Step 3. To switch to the local account, provide a name for the new account and click on the "Next" button
Step 4. From there, click "Sign out and finish" to complete the process.
