Hi @De-Law360,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP 15 laptop is freezing and restarting automatically, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue.

Update Drivers and BIOS

  • Drivers: Ensure all your drivers are up to date, especially graphics, chipset, and network drivers. You can update drivers via the Device Manager or the HP Support website.
  • BIOS: Check if there is an updated BIOS version available for your laptop on the HP Support website. Updating the BIOS can resolve compatibility issues.

Check for Overheating

  • Ventilation: Ensure your laptop is well-ventilated and not overheating. Clean the vents and consider using a cooling pad.
  • Temperature Monitoring: Use software like HWMonitor to check the temperature of your CPU and GPU. If temperatures are high, it might be necessary to clean the internal fans or apply new thermal paste.

Run System Diagnostics

  • HP Support Assistant: Use the HP Support Assistant to run hardware diagnostics.
  • Windows Memory Diagnostic: Search for "Windows Memory Diagnostic" in the Start menu and run it to check for memory issues.

Check for Software Conflicts

  • Startup Programs: Disable unnecessary startup programs via Task Manager.
  • Clean Boot: Perform a clean boot to see if the issue persists. This helps identify if background software is causing the problem.

Scan for Malware

  • Antivirus Scan: Run a full system scan with your antivirus software to rule out malware or viruses.

Check Event Viewer

  • Event Logs: Open Event Viewer (search for it in the Start menu) and check the "System" log for any critical errors or warnings that might provide clues.

Power Settings and Battery

  • Power Settings: Check your power settings and ensure they are not causing the issue. Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep and review the settings.
  • Battery Health: If the issue occurs mainly when the laptop is unplugged, the battery might be faulty. Check battery health in the BIOS or with diagnostic tools.

Perform a System Restore or Reset

  • System Restore: If the issue started recently, you might be able to use System Restore to revert to a previous state.
  • Reset PC: As a last resort, consider performing a factory reset. Make sure to back up your data before doing this.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
