New HP Gaming 790-0xxx - Cannot use restart command

HP Recommended
Gaming 790-0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

New out of the box computer.  Cannot use 'restart' at any time (not just after updates). Goes to black screen - waited for over an hour but it went nowhere.  Have to do a power off/on to get it to reboot.  Using 'shut down' works fine.  Please advise what I need to do to be able to use restart command.

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

Are you having this problem with only a keyboard, mouse, and monitor connected to the PC? Does this problem exist before and after installing Windows updates?

The HP factory operating system image is stable.

This is a brand new PC. I would say you have some kind of hardware problem if you cannot use the Windows Restart option.

I would return this PC for an exchange or a refund.

No sense in troubleshooting a brand new PC.

Regards

Professor, thank you for the response....it does happen with no extra peripherals and yes, before and after installing updates.  Was hoping there would be an easy solution as it is son's new computer and sending it back in would cause panic in his world (*gasp* without a computer the world may end!!)  🙂 lol, thanks again for your response and happy holiday's!
