No BIOS screen on new PC

HP Slimline 260 a108ns
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Just bought this PC without OS as I wanted to install Windows 7 from DVD but when I boot it up it doesn't show the BIOS screen, instead it goes into MS-DOS and waits for a command. How can I install my OS?

No BIOS screen on new PC

Hi:

You have to go into the BIOS and change two settings.

See this general guide for how to access the BIOS and what settings to change...You will first need to tap the ESC key, then select the F10 system setup menu from the list.

I have tried ESC as well as all the F keys during boot-up but no BIOS.

ESC should have worked, so unfortunately I don't have any other ideas you can try.

F9 is the boot options key, but if you have already tried that one, then I am at a loss to understand why you can't get into the BIOS, or boot from the W7 DVD.

If you are into the setup utility, read the instructions on that link I posted to make sure that legacy mode is enabled, and secure boot is disabled.

Then change the boot order of the devices.

Do not do step 3 (set the BIOS to its defaults).

Now it says it cannot install Windows on this disc because it has a MBR partition and on EFI Windows can only be installed on a GPT disc.Could you suggest a solution to this?

Hi:

You have to boot from the Legacy DVD drive, not the EFI one.
