A friend wanted me to fix his HP computer, it was saying No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed so i put a new hard drive in that i installed windows 7 on and put it in his tower and it is still showing that error. @Gilligan0917, welcome to the forum.

Thank you for the additional information, @Gilligan0917.

The computer originally came with Win 8 installed.  The BIOS will be set to Secure Boot.  This may be your problem.  I suggest that you disable Secure Boot to see if that solves your problem.

I tried that and still nothing. Its weird it sounds like the HDD isnt even trying to boot, but it is set as the 1st boot and cd is 2nd. I even tried reseting the cmos with the jumper and that didnt help. When i go into the settings its reading both the dvd drive and the HDD, it just doesnt want to boot with them. Even with a windows disk in the DVD drive it wont boot from that. Im wondering if the motherboard could be bad.

If your friend made the Recovery media when he bought the computer, I suggest that you use it to get the computer running.  It should work without any problems.  This will tell you if the motherboard is having problems.

If he didn't make the media, here is the HP Software and Driver Download page for the computer.  There is a section to allow you to order the USB Recovery kit.
