HP Pavilion Elite HPE-180t CTO

Hopefully this is the right forum for this.  I got an HP Pavilion Elite HPE-180t CTO Desktop PC.  I know it is an old machine but it has been working okay up till the other day.  I was having some memory issues so I reseated all my ram.  Now it will not start but does one short beep then one long beep.  I figured it was a ram issue but I do not know how to solve the issue.

@Kulay, welcome back to the forum.

 

Here is a guide to HP BIOS beep codes.  It shows that it is a memory problem, as you suspected.  The best way to solve the problem is replace the memory if reseating it didn't help.  Also, here is the memory that is recommended by Crucial Memory.  They make great memory for OEM computers.  HP has used it in many of their computers.

 

If you want to take the computer to another level of performance, take a look at the SSD's that they offer.  A SSD will speed up boot and apps opening a bunch!  I will never have another computer without a SSD boot drive.

I tried to do as many ram configurations as possible but nothing seems to solve the problem.   THe beep code says memory but I think it is the Motherboard.  I think it would be cheaper for me to get a new motherboard than a new computer.    How do I know what size motherboard I should get?

Here is the Motherboard Specifications page for the computer.  In the section titled "Form Factor" you will find the measurements of the board.  However, HP has their boards made to their specs.  Therefore, they are not necessarily the same as retail versions.  You have to make certain that the holes in the board will match the stand-offs in the case.  Also, some members have reported problems with the front connectors matching, such as, the power button connector.  Your best option would be to replace it with the same board.  This will assure that the System Recovery media works.  Otherwise, you will have to buy a new operating system.
