Purchased this all in One HP Windows 11 PC in Aug 2024. Has worked fine until very recently (past month), when it suddenly developed a problem re-starting from sleep.
Everything works fine on initial start up and while using but if I stop using PC and it goes into sleep, it struggles to start properly again when I next attempt to use. Please note I am not talking about slow internet connection here, I am talking about the operation of the computer.
Coming out of sleep, the computer does not function properly. Takes a long time to face-recognise me from cam to log onto computer (and same if I try to log in with password). The mouse stutters around the screen, while the windows that were previously open and running fine, are slow in loading. Also it is impossible to move between windows while this is happening. Can be up to an hour before the computer is fully ready to use - generally can't wait, so have to turn off completely and re-start from scratch to get it working properly again.
I have tried to factory reset and reinstall Windows but this makes no difference.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

@GaryC71, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
It sounds like your HP All-in-One PC is experiencing performance issues after waking up from sleep mode. Let’s go through some possible causes and solutions:
Power Settings and Sleep Mode Settings
Sometimes, sleep settings can interfere with performance. Try tweaking these settings.
Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery.
Click on Additional Power Settings.
Select Change plan settings for your active power plan, then click Change advanced power settings.
Check settings for Sleep, Hard disk, USB selective suspend, and PCI Express link state power management. Set them to Never or Maximum performance to ensure your system doesn’t get into a state where it's struggling to wake up properly.
Device Drivers and Firmware Updates
If there are outdated or corrupted drivers, they could be causing the sleep-wake issues. Focus on updating the following:
Graphics Drivers, Chipset and Power Management Drivers, USB Drivers, BIOS/UEFI Update.
You can either visit Device Manager (Right-click on Start > Device Manager) and manually update drivers, or use HP Support Assistant to automatically check for driver updates.
Disable Hybrid Sleep
Hybrid sleep is a mix of sleep and hibernation, and it can sometimes cause issues with waking up. To disable it:
Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings.
Click Change advanced power settings.
Under Sleep > Allow hybrid sleep, set it to Off.
Click Apply and OK.
Check for Malware
Even though your PC was recently reset, it’s still worth running a full malware scan. Malware can sometimes cause abnormal system behavior.
Use Windows Defender to scan for malicious software.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hey @GaryC71,
Thank you for your response
Thank you for confirming you've already tried all the suggested steps. Since the problem still occurs after those fixes, here are some more steps that might help:
Try Disabling Fast Startup
Fast Startup can sometimes conflict with sleep/wake functions.
Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
Uncheck Turn on fast startup
Save changes and reboot
Run HP Diagnostics (Hardware Check)
Hardware-level issues like failing SSD or memory can behave this way:
Restart the PC and press F2 repeatedly to launch HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics
Run Memory Test, Storage Test, and System Test
Let us know if any tests fail
Test with Sleep Disabled
To isolate the issue, you can disable sleep altogether and use hibernate or screen-off instead:
Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery > Screen and sleep
Set “Put my device to sleep” to Never
Let me know how it goes
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
