PC doesn't turn on, no fans, no windows bootup screen, no nothing

HP ENVY 20-d200 TouchSmart All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
Hi. So yesterday after a lightning storm, my computer would not turn on, no fans, no windows bootup, no nothing. I think its unlikely this was from a surge of power, as another thing was plugged in and it was running just fine. and the computer was off and i plugged it out during the thunderstorm. The only sign of power i see is that when i press the power button, its white, but nothing happens. I tried plugging in other items (like a phone charger, an air conditioner, etc) and they worked fine. Please reply with some answers how to fix this!

Greetings Armel_08,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not an HP employee.

You have taken very good steps to protect your PC. You have also determined the outlet is providing power. Try the system with a different AC power outlet. Check (reseat) power connections to the PC.

You can't rule out a power surge. Are you using an UPS on this PC?

It looks like you have an external PSU problem or the MB or any critical component connected to the MB may have failed.

I would contact HP if you are in warranty or have a local PC technician take a look.

Regards

> I think its unlikely this was from a surge of power ...

In some recent high winds, a tree-branch fell onto the power-lines into my building.

The power-surge caused a fuse in the Public Address amplifier to "blow",

and caused a fuse in a "Boom-Box" to "blow'.

The power-surge did not affect:

* any lights

* the kitchen stove

* the dishwasher

* the microwave

* the stove

* the refrigerator

* the toaster

* the clock-radio

* the TV

* the personal-video-recorder (PVR)

* the computer (protected by an extension-cord with built-in surge protection)

* the hot-water tank

* the alarm system

Thus, some electronics were affected, and some were not affected.

So, I must disagree with your "unlikely" claim.

Please read the suggestions from the Other Person.  It is good advice.
