HP Pavilion Desktop - TP01-1026

Hi Hp Community,

So basically recently I was thinking about getting some a new RAM, so I opened my computer and made sure I knew how to install the RAM properly. I took out the current RAM and put it back in again, locked it in properly and made sure it was put back in properly. However when I tried to turn my PC on later, the screen didn't appear and my keyboard and mouse weren't receiving input from the computer (my RGB lights weren't on, I have RGB lights on my keyboard and mouse that shows if its receiving any input) and then a series of audible beeps played. It went like this;

3 long, lower pitched beeps

And then 2 short, higher pitched beeps.

This beeping pattern repeated a few times, and then stopped completely. Then the light on my power button then blinked as it usually does, in its normal pattern. I then unplugged my PC (I had no other choice) and plugged it back in again. I tried turning it on again, but the same exact thing happened.

This gave me quite a shock, as I've never heard of anything like this before. Naturally, I looked it up and found some beep codes for errors on Hp PCs. Turns out this is very common, and happens when you take out a RAM and put it back in again. It then said something like "you should do a hard reset" and "unplug the PC, hold the power button 10 seconds and then plug it back in again" BUT I've tried all of that, and it didn't work. Everytime I plug it back in again and try to turn it on, it just does the same thing and beeps. Plus, I dont like the sound of doing a hard reset. Does that mean I loose all my files, or it just resets the RAM? Have any ideas about what I could do to fix this?

3 long,

replying

Hi

Your MB has two memory slots. The PC shipped with one 8 GB memory module and one 4 GB memory module totaling 12 GBs of RAM.

Try reseating both memory modules again when the PC is off and unplugged from AC power. Then try one stick of RAM in each memory slot. Now try the other stick of RAM in each memory slot.

It is possible:

- One or both memory modules are not installed correctly.

-You have damaged one or both memory modules.

-Or you have damaged one or both memory slots.

Try a different, known good memory module in both memory slots.

Remove the CMOS battery to reset CMOS when the PC is off and unplugged from AC power, Let the PC sit for a while.

Reinstall the CMOS battery and try again.

Thank you for replying!

I woke up this morning and double checked the RAM by taking it out and putting it back in again.

I turned my computer on and then it restarted itself several times. Then it took me to my usual lock screen. Everything is running smoothly now. Thanks for helping!

Hi

My pleasure.

Good to see reseating the RAM worked.

If you're hearing beep codes after you turn your computer on and then it doesn't start it means the motherboard encountered some kind of problem before it was able to send any error information to the monitor.

Will
