My PC's original 128 boot up SSD had started experiencing disk errors and so I moved to replace it with a larger SSD. I had chosen to use a crucial MX500 250 GB SSD due to my previous experiences with open-source cloning software and HP file partitions. I had performed all the relevant steps to replace the SSD, but when I went to boot up my computer, the thing opened straight to the grub line editor. Now, I had previously had this PC set up with a dual boot, but due to driver issues with the GPU I'd installed, I wound up clearing the Linux file partition. (Due to how things were setup, I could not figure out how to get rid of the Linux boot option, which is why the grub editor was there to load up even when the PC did not posses a Linux operating system.) Anyway, seeing as the new drive wasn't working, I chose to put the old one back in to confirm my fear: that the cloning process missed something. Now, while that does seem to be case (the disk read as corrupted when I plugged it into my laptop), it does not appear that is the reason why the PC wasn't booting up properly. I base this on the fact that replacing the new drive with the old one did not solve the problem. This tells me that something is keeping the PC from reading the disk or else from properly booting from it. This is further confirmed by the fact that no matter what I do, Linux is always the first item in the boot order list.
Now, I have booted and rebooted this thing several times checking that the boot order is correct, resetting the BIOS, setting the boot order to the factory defaults, and nothing seems to be working. Something, somewhere is keeping the PC from reading the boot drive and I do not have the knowledge to say what that is. I can see both the boot disk and the main memory disk in the boot order menu, so the device should be reading from them.
Using the F9 key to quickly change the boot order presents an odd behavior that I have never experienced before. When hitting enter to drag boot devices, the computer will immediately crash and initiate a reboot. This is often followed by the PC booting into a black screen.
My PC is an HP Envy 750-514. I do not know the serial number since I can't get the thing to boot up ATM. The PC has a crucial 8 GB DDR4-2400 UDIMM RAM card taking the place of the original 4 GB DDR4 card. There is also a KAER RX580 8GB Graphics Card. There is also a Corsair 750 W power supply taking the place of the original 300 W PSU. These three devices were not presenting any previous issues aside from the lack of Linux support for older AMD graphics cards.
