POST message to ME: HECI disabled ME FW Update failed

Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Help I've been on the phone for 5 hours today (disconnected [okay hung up on] by HP support people 6 times) and all I've accomplished is learning that a one year warranty from HP is really NOT a year long if (their words) "it's an advanced problem beyond the capability of the warranty support people"


I bought the "All in One" 24" in December of 2017 The website says I have 5 months left on my warranty, but I've just been introduced to the $59.99 (for one issue - $14.99 per month for ongoing support) Smart Friends program.


Seems that HP made available defective firmware and I updated the firmware on my AIO. Since then the unit displays errors when starting up.  


"Error sending end of POSTmessage to ME: HECI disabled. Proceeding with boot"

then on the next screen

"ME FW update failed Please try again!"


Search of those words produces thousands of results

(that's the good news)

The bad news is HP can't figure it out
