HP Recommended

The computer fails to switch on when i press power button. I have replaced the power adapter - no change so must be computer. The power light is on, but flashing - is that correct or showing a fault? I am in the process of upgrading to a new computer but folders & docs dont show in OneDrive so need to access this unit! Any ideas other than take it to repair shop? Thanks!

Update: Having read similar posts i have disconnected the CD Drive  and tried pressing the on button directly with out the cover but with no change. I am not comfortable with shorting the two pins on the ribbon cable.
