Example: Pavilion TP01-0050
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Computer requests password after BIOS update. Did not set up a password. Followed recommendations to remove and replace  BIOS battery with no effect. Went into BIOS setup and reset security to factory settings to no avail. Warranty on computer expired two months ago (of course!) and HP support requests purchase of a tech phone support plan. Googled plan which received overall poor reviews: 61% one star reviews on Amazon. Not sure what to do next. Assistance and advice would be greatly appreciated.

@mtdklein -- unfortunately for you, the rules of this discussion forum forbid giving you any advice on bypassing passwords.

For how long was the BIOS battery removed? It provides a "trickle" of electricity to the CMOS.  The CMOS may be able to survive for a short time when there is no "trickle" of power.  But, even when the CMOS has lost all power, that probably will not "clear" the presence of a password.  So, my suggestion probably is a "dead-end" -- not useful to you.

Did you try just pressing ENTER when prompted for a password?

It's time to take the computer to a local "owner/operator" computer store, where they can easily remedy the issue for your desktop computer.  You don't need to pay HP to service your computer.
