There are no error messages.  I have updated the BIOS to the most current version.

Hi @outrock4 ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Pavilion All-In-One is experiencing a black screen on boot, followed by successful booting after a power off and on, there are several potential causes and solutions you can explore:

Graphics Driver Issues:

  • Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. You can visit the official HP website or the graphics card HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your system.

Power Options and Sleep Settings:

  • Check your power settings to ensure that your computer is not going into a sleep or hibernation mode that could cause display issues on wake-up.

Hardware Connection Issues:

  • Make sure all cables (power, display, etc.) are securely connected to your All-In-One. A loose connection could lead to intermittent issues.

Windows Update:

  • Ensure that Windows is up to date with the latest updates. Sometimes, Microsoft releases patches that address compatibility issues.

BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Apart from updating the BIOS, check if there are specific settings related to graphics or power management in the BIOS/UEFI. Adjusting these settings may help resolve the issue.

Startup Programs:

  • Check if there are any third-party programs or applications that might be causing conflicts during startup. You can use the Task Manager to disable unnecessary startup programs and see if the issue persists.

Windows Event Viewer:

  • Use the Windows Event Viewer to check for any error messages or warnings that might be related to the black screen issue. This can provide more specific information about the problem.

Safe Mode:

  • Boot your computer in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If the problem is resolved in Safe Mode, it could indicate a software conflict. You can then narrow down the cause by selectively enabling startup programs and services.

System File Checker (SFC) and DISM:

  • Run the System File Checker (SFC) and Deployment Image Service and Management Tool (DISM) to check for and repair any corrupted system files. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the following commands:

sfc /scannow
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
