Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Yesterday I changed my log in option. I wanted to get rid off pin number. Everything was ok. Today I open computer, it required pin number, which I wrote, but then a window appears with text: SimplePass requires Windows password verifigation again before you can go on. And below there's my username, computer name and blanc space for new password and verifying new password.

So weird.

I've wrote my pin, totally new pin, password for microsoft account and everything, but nothing is accepted. I've restarted the computer etc.

What is wrong with this???

SimplePass is third party software.

The software is long unsupported - at least as far as I know, the support for SimplePass collapsed (at least in our region) years back.

If you are fortunate, the first solution will work.

What to do?

Fingerprint Sensor / Forced Reset

HP Document

HP Notebook PCs - Computer Does Not Start (Windows 10)

If the fingerprint sensor suddenly stops working on your computer

OR

If the computer is not issuing errors but still won’t let you log in,

Consider trying a Forced Reset (power reset).

Reminders

A Forced Reset is NOT a “recovery” and does not remove your data – this reset merely forces the computer to load the Operating System from disk.

Forced Reset does not harm a healthy system nor does it “fix” problems not related to a clean start.

What else?

  • See if you can start the system in Safe Mode and log in using your password - Safe Mode bypasses the need to use the SimplePass.  If you can get logged in, see if you can remove SimplePass from the Startup process.
  • Talk to Microsoft.  Caveat:  It is unlikely Microsoft can / will help if SimplePass is still in charge of the login process.
  • If you have a viable System Restore Point, use System Restore to "take the system back" to a date / time before the problem started.  If it works, this is a preferred solution since the process generally does NOT lose / impact your personal data.
  • If all else fails, run a system Recovery (remove and reload Windows).  This is going to wipe out your data - hopefully you have made backups of your account files and folders.  Recovery also requires that you reinstall all your software.  Finally, if you decide to reinstall SimplePass, you will also need the backup of your .opt file (your "Vault" / database file of your passwords).  Think before doing...
