HP Envy
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I own an HP Envy 700 from 5 years ago. Lately, the monitor has been turning black and the whole computer looks like it's in sleep mode, except I can't turn it back "on". This has happened two times now and the first time it happened, I chose to refresh it and as a result, lost all of my downloaded files. To prevent that from happening again, I would like to know what is going on.

@exoticweiner,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I recommend you update the BIOS from the below link and check if it helps.

If you continue facing the issue, then follow the below steps.

Open the Windows Settings app.

Click on ‘Update & Security’, then go to the ‘Troubleshoot’ section from the left-side menu.

Scroll downwards a bit and click on the ‘Power’ option.

Click on ‘Run the Troubleshooter’. It will start detecting the problems and if it founds, go ahead fixing it.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!

Cheers!
