The processor sounds like its running but power light will not come on. Green light on in back.

Orange light was on this morning on processor. Nothing would come on. I pressed and held power button to turn off. Now power light will not come on at all but sounds like computer is on. Fan running,  green light on in back. Have unplugged everything and plugged back in. No power light.

Please provide a product number only. It is good to know the age of your PC.

You appear to have a PC component failure. This failure can be caused by, but not limited to the following:

Power supply

Peripheral devices connected to the PC

Internal hardware and cables connected to the PC 

The motherboard or the CPU (CPU failure is very unusual)

This assumes your monitor is good, the monitor power cable and video cable are good, and the cables are correctly connected to the PC. A green power supply LED can be misleading. The power supply may not be providing enough amps to power on the system but the fans will run.

I would contact HP (Link) if you are in warranty.

You can troubleshoot yourself. Doing this requires reducing the PC to a minimum configuration, removing and replacing components one at a time, and checking/reseating all cables. You will need known good replacement parts which can be very expensive. This process is time consuming.

The purpose is to restart the PC each time you work with a component to see if you can get a successful POST or a POST error message. 

Lastly you can have a reliable local PC tech locate the bad component. This may be the best option if you are not in warranty.

If this is your PC (Link) then it is about 9 years old.

You probably have a hardware problem at this age. Follow options in my first response.

It may be time to buy a new HP PC. A new power supply is a simple and inexpensive fix. Replacing add in components is easy to do. But a motherboard replacement may not be cost effective.
