Trying to add a new video card to HP Envy 700 series, getting a black screen at start-up

Envy 700-310xt
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

My old Nvidea GeForce 720 was making a ton of noise and causing error messages and booting me out of programs (driver failure but recovered or simiar to that). After running a GPU test it kept failing so I bought a similar GeForce 710 to replace it. Old one popped out easily enough and the new one fit right in. After start-up I just get a black screen after the HP logo. I installed the new driver and un-installed the old with graphics driver uninstaller. I also went under devices manager and diabled the motherboard graphics display. Still have a black screen at start-up. What do I do to add a simple graphics card? Seems like a lot of nonsense for this level of replacement.

Update: The GeForce 710 did not support the new UEFI BIOS. After hours of screwing around I bought a GeForce 1030. It plugged in and started right up with the HP BIOS and UEFI.
