I don't know the rules to enter India but we (I and my family members) have been carrying notebooks/laptops to at least 40 countries around the world w/o any problem.

 

You may get different voltages but all normal machines now can use 110V-240V. All you need is an adapter which you can buy at many shops for tourists or airports.

Also, do not forget that some countries have a "Border Protection Unit" that has the right, in their country, to start-up the laptop, to get you to enter the Windows password, and to inspect all the files, bookmarks, and E-mail stored on your computer, before allowing you to bring your laptop into their country.  So, be careful about what content is stored on your computer, or is accessible from any "cloud" service.
