hi, i have the HP 550-153w Pavillion desktop computer. I started having a issue with it about six months or so when the screen (monitor) would go black and yet I could hear the sound thourgh the speakers, okay.. so I would just reboot and wah-lah im back in biz. This process I would repeat often about 1nce a week or sometimes about 2-3x's month. So I thought it might be the VGA on the board, I tested it and thats not it. I tried switching to a HDMI cabling connection and nothing. Windows won't boot. I can't see  screen it remains black/blank. Not having VGA issues, I can see  "HP" Logo and the little rolling balls  and after that nothing happens. Windows wont open. HDMI and VGA works fine. What am i missing....or do I need to think about another motherboard.

Hey there! @brink_10456, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand you have issues booting into your PC and you see a black screen.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any hardware or software changes on your PC?

Are you able to boot into BIOS on your PC?

Have you tried connecting a different monitor to your PC? Does the issue persist?

Have you tried checking with a different video cable?

Excellent description and a great diagnosis done. It is greatly appreciated.

You can try the steps recommended below and check if it helps.

Try the steps recommended below to restore BIOS to default.

1.    Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
2.    Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
3.    On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
4.    Press F10 to Save and Exit.
5.    Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
6.    Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Disable the power settings in BIOS

If Windows was recently upgraded, Windows might be starting up in a power saving state and producing the blank screen before Windows loads. After Windows loads (about 2 minutes after turning on the computer), press the power button briefly or press the Suspend key on the keyboard to see if the computer comes out of the suspended state. If the computer opens in a suspended state every time the computer is started, use the following steps to disable Power Savings in the BIOS.

Connect the computer to a working display to perform these steps:

Turn on the computer and repeatedly press F10. Press the key about once every second for 5 seconds after turning the computer on.
In the BIOS Setup utility, press the right arrow key and select the Power tab.
Press the down arrow key to select Hardware power Management.
Press the right arrow key to disable SATA Power Management.
Press F10 to save the settings and exit.

If you are able to boot into your PC try updating the BIOS and chipset driver on your PC and check if it helps.

You can try updating the drivers on your PC using HP support assistant.

Refer this article to know more information about using HP support assistant.

If the issue still persists try running a system diagnostics test on your PC and check if the hardware on your PC is functioning correctly.
