@officialdj -- what is the model-number of your computer?

Has the computer ever worked, and only recently stopped workign?

How old is the disk-drive?

Could the disk-drive be "failing" ?

How many minutes are you waiting, before declaring it to be "stuck" ?

@officialdj -- try this:

  1. power-off the computer
  2. power-on the computer, and immediately start tapping ESC or F2 or F10 or ENTER. The intent is to produce a menu, with one of the choices on the menu to run the HP Hardware Diagnostics.
  3. Run the diagnostics, especially the "short" (a minute) disk-drive test, but avoid the "long" (many minutes) disk-drive test.  Any "fail" needs to be investigated.

If you cannot get to see that menu, then you can download the HP Hardware Diagnostics, burn it to a DVD-recordable, and boot your computer from that image, to run the tests.
