HP pavilion s5650z desktop windows 10 on reboot/restart won't load windows 10. After the blue HP window the screen goes blank with a cursor blinking on the upper left side. This started about 6 months ago. I have to use the power button to restart again and hit the Esc button at the blue window and it will go to the boot menu and then I can hit enter and it will load windows. I should mention the computer is 13 years old. It's difficult to do trouble shooting because of the problem with restarting. I attempted to do a PC reset and because of the boot problem it couldn't complete. Every time it rebooted during the reset I had to hit Esc and go to the boot menu, but it didn't always work and sometimes would go to the blank screen with the blinking cursor. I wanted to try to do a reinstall of windows, but my DVD RW drive has stopped working. I don't if this started after a Windows 10 update or what. Anyone have this problem?

Reinstalling Windows is not a realistic option/ Why? Because HP does not provide DVDs of Windows that you can use and their Cloud Recovery requires PCs be newer than 2016, and I'm guessing yours is older than that.
If you use Windows that you buy, it will only install the generic MS drivers, not the custom HP drivers that you need.
You would need to save off the drivers before doing any reinstall, but if you can't boot the PC, you have no way to do that

Yes, I can re-install the Windows 10 operating system from the CD rom discs I made when I purchased the PC in 2010, but as I mentioned, the DVD RW drive isn't working. I don't know if it's an operating system issue or something else is wrong. In my post, I said the PC is 13 years old. That's why I posted my problem, in case someone out there has experienced the problem I'm having. In the meantime I'm working on troubleshooting the issue with the DVD RW drive to see if I can get it to function.

I don't know what the DVD drives cost in the UK, but I recently had one go out on an old desktop and was able to replace it for $24 USD. My guess is that the price will be around that in Euros in the UK.
