laptop omen 17-w111nb
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Here's the mystery :

  1. laptop (win 10 X64) received a bios update through support assistant (SP93111) .
  2. Download OK, install ok but on reboot and bios flash stuck on 5% (block 116 of 2048).
  3. Let it run for 24 hours, no improvement.
  4. Tried to shut the laptop down holding power button - no reaction
  5. removed power supply - no reaction untill battery drained (non removable battery)...

Over to plan B : bios recovery.

  1. downloaded SP93111 on separate laptop en created bios recovery usb
  2. flashed bios of OMEN 17-w111nb, 2048 blocks + verification OK -> automatic reboot
  3. upon reboot : flashing keyboard -> boot blocks being written 100% -> automatic reboot
  4. laptop keeps rebooting showing nothing else then a black screen, reboots every 60 to 90 seconds or so

Over to plan C : hard reset

  1. reset performed, 15 seconds, jadajadajada .... no change ...
  2. and re-executed bios recovery .... no change

Over to plan D : downgrade bios

  1. found SP90233 -> created USB recovery, tried to execute -> not working and suddenly blinking caps locks -> 2.2 blinks -> checkup HP.com
  2. bios corruption redirecting to Bios recovery procedure .... AAAAAARRRGGGGHHHH

Back to square 1 / Option B ....

Anybody having an idea what's happening and how to solve this??

Thanks in advance,

Vince

Hi! @vbeernaert, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Are you able to boot into windows on the PC?

Splendid analysis and remarkable patience shown. It is immensely appreciated.

By not wasting much of your time. Try restoring the BIOS to default on your PC and check if it helps.

1.    Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
2.    Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
3.    On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
4.    Press F10 to Save and Exit.
5.    Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
6.    Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Also, try the steps recommended below.

  1. Turn off the computer, and then connect the power cord.

  2. Press and hold the Windows key  and the B key at the same time, and then press and hold the power button for 2 to 3 seconds.

  3. Release the Power button but continue pressing the Windows and B keys. You might hear a series of beeps.

The HP BIOS Update screen displays and the recovery begins automatically. Follow any on-screen prompts to continue the startup to complete the recovery.

HP BIOS Update recovery in progress

    • If the HP BIOS Update screen does not display, repeat the previous steps but press the Windows key and the V key. If the screen still does not display, your computer might not support the feature or there is a hard drive issue. Continue to the next step to install a BIOS recovery file from the HP website.

    • If the Power light turns off, the Power button was held too long. Repeat the previous steps, making sure to hold the button for only 2 to 3 seconds.

    • If a BIOS recovery message repeatedly displays, continue to the next step to install an updated BIOS version.

Also, if the issue still persists after trying out the steps the BIOS has got corrupted on the PC and it has to be serviced at a repair center.
