HP pavilion desktop 595-p0xxxE
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Every time I turn on my computer, I need to make a hard reset. How can I get this HP Pavilion to start correctly? Are there certain updates that will eliminate this problem?

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?

I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Let's perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant:

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

And, also run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00007682

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi Echo_Lake,

Thank you so much for responding!!

I connect my HP Pavilion desktop to my tv through an hdmi cable. I noticed the black screen after changing to a 4K tv. Can that be the problem? I connected to my old tv and it went on normally but after switching back to 4K it went on once and then when I restarted it I got a black screen again. I don't mind using my old tv if it's easier than doing a BIOS update.

I do have HP support and there is the BIOS update but I'm afraid to try it after reading many 'HP goes black after BIOS update' articles. Also I have windows 10 version 1803. It didn't automatically update me, but windows says I can upgrade to version 1903 whenever I want.

What would you suggest is the easiest way to fix this?

I really appreciate your help!! :):)

Thank you for posting back.

This sounds like a driver compatibility issue, updating the system graphic drivers might do the trick. Please try updating the system software using HP support assistance
(Note: back up all your personal files and data before updating the system )

And, also try this workaround suggest by "tom's guide"

  • Right-click on the desktop
  • Go to graphic properties
  • Click advanced mode
  • Click on multiple displays then select clone.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
