What is the type, of the Motherboard CMOS Battery for Z440 and Z640 Workstations ....?

 

B.
Additional HDD/SSD SATA 3 to add in Z440 or/and in Z640, WHAT ARE THE STEPS prior open the PCs?

Then is ok for adding, ...?

 

C.

BIOS UPDATES should be done when on UPS Secure Power source... How find out if Z440 or Z640 needs BIOS updates?

A. CMOS Battery Type for HP Z440 and Z640 Workstations:


Both the HP Z440 and Z640 workstations use a standard CR2032 lithium coin-cell battery for the motherboard CMOS.

 

B. Steps Before Adding an HDD/SSD to Z440/Z640:


Before installing an additional SATA 3 HDD/SSD, follow these steps to safely prepare the system:

  1. Shut down the workstation and turn off the power switch (if applicable).
  2. Unplug the power cord from the wall socket.
  3. Disconnect all peripherals (keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc.).
  4. Press and hold the power button for 20-30 seconds to discharge residual power.
  5. Open the case and install the HDD/SSD into an available drive bay.
  6. Connect the SATA data cable to an available SATA port on the motherboard.
  7. Connect a SATA power connector from the PSU to the new drive.
  8. Close the case, reconnect the power cord and peripherals, and power on the system.
  9. In BIOS, check if the new drive is detected. If needed, enable it in the boot settings.
  10. If installing a new SSD/HDD for Windows or Linux, initialize and format the drive in Disk Management (Windows) or GParted (Linux).

 

C. Checking for BIOS Updates on Z440/Z640 & UPS Recommendation:

 

  1. It is highly recommended to have the workstation connected to a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) during a BIOS update to prevent power loss.
  2. To check if your Z440/Z640 needs a BIOS update:
  3. If an update is available, follow HP’s provided installation instructions, usually involving a USB flash drive or HP’s BIOS update tool.

About the Z640 the same as Z440 if OS Windows 10 and additional added below if OS Windows 11...

Well... what this mean and how apply for my Z640? 

Note: Both Z440 and Z640 are dual-boot systems: Windows 11 Pro 24H2 + Windows 10 Pro.

@lse123,

 

I believe I have given you all the information/links you need: the latest BIOS update for HP Z440/Z640/Z840 Workstation System: 02.61 Rev.A, released on April 17, 2023.

 

With regards to software updates, if the HP Support Assistant and Windows update says you're up to date, you likely are.

 

One thing you could do, is to download and install Intel's Driver & Support Assistant from here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html.  Run it and see if this tool sees anything that needs updating.  Once done, uninstall it.
