Hi, I'm about to receive my new Omen 875-1023 which has a single 1 TB PCIe(R) NVMe(TM) M.2 installed. I am going to use it not for gaming but for video editing. The online recommendations for the software I'm going to use (DaVinci Resolve 16) are to have multiple HD with the fastest one as a "scratch disk" (cache for video files while editing) and have the system files on a different drive. I'd like to add a 1 TB SSD i have on hand, and move the system files to it and make it the primary drive and then use the M2 as the scratch disk. I'd also like to install a 4TB 3.5" HD for archiving also as recommended online.
Is it possible to clone the files from the M2 to the new SSD, change the boot order in the BIOS to boot from there and then reformat the M2 as the scratch disk? or something like that? Or is that a silly idea?
Thanks
Chris

Your plan is well thought out. Clone the NVMe to the SSD HD on hand. You will need 2 HD tray, as shown on page 16. Ebay has it used for about $10 each. And of course, SATA600 data cables.

Sorry, additional detail. Most of the PC I've worked on before came with data and power cables already on the motherboard. Do I need SATA data and power cable combo or just data? or separate data and power cables.
thanks

To confirm my reply, I suggest you look. The installed PSU has the standard ATX form, so it should have adequate SATA power plugs. No where have I see models that had SATA data cables dangling from the motherboard waiting for use. 🤔
