Hi @CARY_NG,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • When did you first notice the fan behavior after a Windows update, BIOS update, or hardware change?
  • Does the fan revving occur only during startup, or does it continue while the system is idle?

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check HP Hardware Diagnostics
    • Restart your PC and press F2 repeatedly to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
    • Run the System Tests → Thermal Test to check if the fan and temperature sensors are functioning correctly.
  2. Update Chipset and Graphics Drivers
    • Outdated chipset or graphics drivers can cause the fan to ramp unnecessarily.
    • Use HP Support Assistant or visit the HP Drivers & Downloads page for your model to install the latest drivers.
  3. Adjust Power Settings
    • Go to Control Panel → Power Options.
    • Select Balanced or HP Recommended plan.
    • Click Change plan settings → Change advanced power settings.
    • Under Processor power management, set Minimum processor state to around 5% and Maximum to 100%.
  4. Monitor CPU Usage
  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Check if any background processes are causing high CPU usage, which can trigger fan speed changes.

I hope this helps.

Hi @CARY_NG,

If your HP Pavilion Desktop - 570-p017c is experiencing CPU fan revving up and down, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

  1. Check for Software Conflicts:

    • Ensure that there are no software applications running in the background that could be causing high CPU usage, leading to fan speed fluctuations. Use Task Manager to monitor CPU activity.
  2. Clean Your Desktop:

    • Dust and debris can obstruct air flow, leading to overheating and fan speed variations. Regularly clean your desktop, including the fans and vents, to ensure proper ventilation.
  3. Check the Fan Connection:

    • Make sure the CPU fan is properly connected to the motherboard. A loose connection can cause inconsistency in fan operation.
  4. Fan Settings in BIOS:

    • Enter BIOS setup and check if there are any fan speed settings that you can adjust. Make sure the fan profile is set to "Automatic" or "Balanced" to allow the system to manage fan speeds based on temperature.
  5. Temperature Monitoring:

    • Use a program that monitors CPU temperatures to check if the CPU is overheating, which might cause the fan to rev up. If the temperature is high, consider reapplying thermal paste or improving cooling.
  6. Hardware Diagnostic Test:

    • Run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI tool to check if the fan or other components are malfunctioning. This tool can help identify if there's a hardware issue.
