OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 870-262nz

Hi there ...

The OMEN 870-262NZ includes the mainboard "Thimphu-K".  As officially said this mainboard just supports Intel Core i7-7700K CPU.

Unfortunately Windows 11 doesn't support 7700-CPUs at all.

So what should I do?

  • Buy another CPU and hope it works?
  • Buy another mainboard and CPU?
  • Buy a whole new PC?

Regards, Hendrik

Hi @Hal2024

The last two options are valid, you will not be able to place an 8 th Gen. CPU on that motherboard.

Hi, @Hal2024

You also have an option to upgrade your PC to W11 as is for free.

If you are interested in installing W11 on your PC as is, you can read this discussion for how I upgraded several HP and Dell notebook and desktop PC's that did not meet the W11 hardware requirements to W11 22H2/22H3.

You have to use the version of the Rufus utility that I zipped up and attached in the discussion (v3.18).

If the in-place upgrade fails, you should be able to clean install W11 using the bootable W11 installation flash drive you made with Rufus.
