HP Pavilion Gaming - TG01-1160xt CTO

Hello! Recently I upgraded my ram to 32GB (2x16) of DDR4 RAM. I am thinking about upgrading my PSU to possibly support a better CPU. Currently I have an Intel i5 - 10400. If it's possible to swap the CPU, what would you all recommend? (I have been looking at the i7-10700). Due to swapping the CPU, I was wondering if 500 watts would be enough since I've mainly seen the 500 watt be the top psu upgrade for the TG01s. Any responses/recommendations would be extremely helpful. Have a nice day!

Specs: TG01-1160xt CTO
RAM: 32 GB 2666 DDR4
CPU: Intel i5-10400
GPU: RTX 2070
PSU: HP 400 watt
SSD: 500 GB

@JTR4573DD,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Your HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-1160xt (8MP64AV) is fitted with a Baker motherboard (SSID: 8767) and its power supply can be upgraded to a 500-watt PSU, p/n: L05757-800 -but you already knew that.

However, an RTX 2070 is recommended to be powered by a 500-watt power supply to avoid graphics throttling.

Now, both the i5-10400 and the i7-10700 / i7-10700F have the same TDP: 65-watt, so a processor upgrade is not going to make much of a difference in power usage.  It definitely would improve your gaming experience, though: UserBenchmark: HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-1xxx Compatible Components.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

@JTR4573DD,

1.) HP Desktop PCs - Motherboard Specifications, Baker | HP® Customer Support (i7-11700 / i7-11700F compatibility: YES).

2.) There are no compatible HP power supplies beyond 500 watt for an HP TG01-1160xt CTO.  The L05757-800 would be perfect for your config.

3.) Both the i5-10400 and the i7-10700 have the same 65-watt TDPIntel® Core™ i5-10400 Processor and: Intel® Core™ i7-10700 Processor.

4.) An HP p/n: L05757-800 500-watt power supply meets or exceeds the 80-PLUS certification standard.

5.) see #2.

Kind Regards,
