HP Pavilion 500-210qe CTO Desktop PC

I have a HP Pavilion  500 desktop.  I get the 511 CPU fan not detect at start up. Eventually the fan would start, but has been taking longer times to start running as time has gone by. Now the fan is not starting at all. Any ideas. Not sure if this could be a SW or HW issue. The heat sink appears to generally clean. Not a lot of dust build up etc.

If the CPU fan is failing to start, it needs to be replaced ASAP.  Running the PC with that fan not running is a recipe for disaster.

The fan can be replaced by itself or the whole cooler can be replaced.  If the cooler ( heat sink and fan assembly) is removed from the CPU, the the heat sink surface and the CPU surface needs to be cleaned and the heat sink compound refreshed.
