Hi. I would like to upgrade my HP Pavilion Desktop Model 500-404a with a new CPU and new RAM, do I need a new HP mainboard and what sort of CPU would you recommend?
I'd like to install a 16 core mutithread processor.
Will i need to take the power supply into consideration? I've recently upgraded.
Ultimately i wish to install Windows 11
I appreciate your help

Hi @monero1965
Welcome to the HP Forum.
Your PC is about nine years old.
You would have to either: build a new PC from scratch or buy a new HP PC if you want to approach a 16 core CPU.
I would not invest money in attempting to upgrade the 500-404a PC.
You are looking at an Intel i7 or i9 CPU (P-cores and E-cores) or a Ryzen 9 CPU if you want a multi-threaded 16 core CPU.
Both CPUs are power hungry and generate a lot of heat. It would be extremely difficult (or impossible) to keep either CPU's temps under control in the 500-404a case.
