Elite 8000 and 6300
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have an HP Elite 8000 which I have been led to believe does not support GPT / UEFI.

I would like to migrate to an HP 6300 which I believe does support GPT / UEFI.

Can I just clone the System Drive (in MBR mode) and then do some form of conversion to GPT / UEFI?

Might there be a better way?

@MJJRLynch,

Run the program listed here to verify the Boot Environment, either BIOS or UEFI on each machine. The 8000 is circa 2009 (likely not UEFI as implimentation was Sept 2012) and the chipset of the 6300 was issued 2nd Q/2012 and 3Q/2012) for UEFI. So that is questionable.

Then read up on MBR and GBT rules.

@MJJRLynch,

You never answered basic questions, and ignored basic tenets of inquiry.

Clone it, and attempt a conversion.  At least the original hard drive is safe.

Remember that an "OS" is linked to the BIOS NRAM, and the other computer will not validate/authenicate OS.

Still will cost you an OS "KEY".
