Thanks for the update and the great troubleshooting summary -and congrats on the painless Windows 11 upgrade and the shiny new Nvidia RTX 5070!
Yes, I do have some ideas after researching your issue to the best of my abilities.
Based on what you've described, it sounds like your Z840 (dual Xeon E5-2643 v3) and the other Xeon-based system are both experiencing a network discovery issue specific to the MyCloud PR2100 NAS, despite successful IP access and pings.
Interestingly, your i7-based machine doesn’t have this problem -so let’s try a few targeted solutions that often resolve this issue on Windows 11 + workstation-class platforms:
Quick Checks:
SMB 1.0 Client
Make sure the SMB 1.0/CIFS Client is enabled in Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows features on or off (uncheck "Automatic Removal" too).
Network Profile = Private
Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Properties and ensure the network is set to Private.
Credential Manager Cleanup
Open Credential Manager and remove any saved credentials for the NAS. Then re-add them manually if needed.
NetBIOS over TCP/IP
Go to your adapter’s IPv4 properties > Advanced > WINS tab and ensure "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" is selected.
Try Accessing With UNC + IP
Use File Explorer to map:
\\192.168.x.x\Public(replace with your NAS IP and actual share name)
Advanced Fixes:
Enable Required Services
Open services.msc and make sure these are set to Automatic (Delayed Start):
Function Discovery Provider Host
Function Discovery Resource Publication
Firewall Rules
Go to Windows Defender Firewall > Allow an app through firewall
Ensure File and Printer Sharing and Network Discovery are allowed for Private networks.
Registry Edit (Optional for SMB Guest Auth)
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\ParametersCreate a new DWORD: AllowInsecureGuestAuth and set it to 1
Reboot.
Hosts File Workaround
Edit the file at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
Add:
192.168.x.x MYCLOUDPR2100Then try:
\\MYCLOUDPR2100\Public
Final Tips:
Try running:
net view \\MYCLOUDPR2100and:
nbtstat -nto confirm visibility.
You could also try booting a Linux Live USB (like Ubuntu) on the Z840 and see if the NAS is visible via hostname there -that would definitely confirm this is strictly a Windows configuration issue (which I suspect)
Let us know how it goes -your case is a helpful one for others running workstation-class systems such as the Z840 on Windows 11.
Appreciate you keeping the Community in the loop!

Hi,
Great news - and bad 😞 news. Your suggestion regarding finding/mapping the NAS worked on step 5. Interesting, I used the ip address for the NAS in the Windows Credentials without success. Then I added the share name, and Windows found the drive and allowed me to map it. The solution was to include the share name, i.e. \\MYCLOUDPR2100 in the Windows Credentials. Everything is up and running. I now have Windows 11 running on a Z840 with CPU E5-2463 v3 (unsupported) processor running without any issues.
The BAD news. The 2 -fan MSI Ventus GeForce RTX 5070 is too tall to fit into the chassis of an HP Z840 and allow the cooling shroud to be reinstalled. First, the plastic fin interfered. I cut that flush with the bracket. However, the bracket interfered would not allow it to close.
The 2-fan NVIDIA - GeForce RTS 3070 is shorter by nearly an inch, and the shroud closes without a problem. It is very workable.
I hope this helps.
Again, thank you for all of your help. Also, there is a notable performance improvement running Windows 11 on the machine.
Again, thanks.
John
