So I recently had a pavilion with an 8th Gen I5 and managed a power supply swap by using an older hp 6+4 PSU adapter and splicing the 6pin portion to the 7 pin portion with like colors (along with combing black and red on the PSU side) I was able to get it running with a video card and everything. The PSU was left in an always on state, but it has no functional problems. I had to cut into the case a bit to fit a standard PSU but it does fit if your bold and determined. Just thought this might help!
